Roofing Houses and Buying a Sofa

Sound familiar? Thanks to you, families in Malawi are also able to re-roof their homes. They remove the grass thatch and replace it with iron sheets. Buying a sofa? Yes, even purchasing furniture. The homes in the villages have hard mud/clay floors that dry and are swept clean. Most families might have some wooden chairs a table or shelf but having upholstery is rare.

This is Setilida Gilimoti, a farmer from the M’buka Club. Setilida lives in Katela Village. She has been married for 30 years, has 4 children and has been with AWP since 2018. She uses basins for irrigating but still uses a watering can. She sells her extra produce to restaurants and hotels. She encourages other women and teaches them to farm as she does. Setilida is food secure, she isn’t a lead farmer and hasn’t yet wanted to increase her garden size or switch over to irrigation technology, but for her there are no more hunger seasons. She has a new roof and she has purchased a sofa! Irrigation and education has made such a difference in her life. You have made that possible. Thank You.
